The group known as WTO began in the
60s, when local theatre organ enthusiasts gathered at the Miller Theatre after hours
to use the organ there. Through the 30-odd years, the group has evolved, but Michael Coup,
J. D. Unruh and David Bernstorf were part of the original group and are still officers in
2001 (president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer, respectively.) The organization
owns two playing theatre organs, the Wichita Wurlitzer and the Miller Theatre Wurlitzer
(each is described below) and has purchased other Wurlitzers for possible future
installation, including the Belshaw Residence Wurlitzer, formerly installed in Englewood,
CO. WTO hosts concerts at both current venues, Century II Civic Center (the Wichita
Wurlitzer) and the Coup home, the Little River Studio (the Miller Wurlitzer). A three
concert season begins in the fall and ends in April or May. Double Concert
Weekends offer a Wichita Wurlitzer concert on Saturday night and a Miller Wurlitzer
concert on Sunday. The next such double-header is May 5-6, 2001, and, honoring 30 years of
WTO concerts, each 30th Season concert weekend will be a double, on Oct.
20-21, 2001; March 9-10, 2002, and May 4-5, 2002. Tickets for the Century II and Litle River events are available from Wichita Theatre Organ by faxing your order to 316-838-3127 or emailing your ticket request to Tickets2WTO@ hotmail.com. To purchase CDs or other WTO products (sales list available) or to
volunteer your help or your financial support, or for a current concert season brochure or
other information, contact Karen Coup, Business Manager, 316 838 3127 or . WTO has many
